iTunes link: itunes.apple.com Hey guys, I’m back and with 1 of 2 new singles for you today. Firstly, I just want to apologise for my enormous absence, from September through to June I was heavily involved with school stuff. It was my second from last year of high school, and these years are quite important so unfortunately I had to spend more time on that than this. This song is called “Obscurity” and it’s currently available on iTunes! I didn’t do my last trick where I posted the video before it became for sale, and this way it’s just more convenient for both of us. As far as song writing was concerned, I’ve had this idea for quite a while, but I didn’t think it would fit in a song just because of its sort of rock feel as apposed to the metal feel which people seem to like. The tuning for this song is D standard, one step down from regular E tuning. I hope you’ll find that these two singles are way better sound quality than my first effort! For the guitars, I used my POD X3 and recorded it in REAPER. For the (pretty bad) drumming, I used EZDrummer but this time I programmed it using EZDrummer, and was able to mix it myself instead of getting Buckeye to do it for me. “Dream Weaver” is a song by Gary Wright that was a hit single in the US reaching #2 in the Billboard charts while it reached #1 in the Cash Box charts, Australia, Canada and Europe in 1976. Taken from the album The Dream Weaver released the previous year – said by Wright to be the first-ever all-synthesiser/keyboard album – it features Wright on vocals and keyboards, and Jim Keltner on drums. The first all-synthesizer album was in fact Switched-On Bach by Wendy Carlos, in 1968. This song, and its keyboard introduction, may have been an early influence on Wes Craven for the concept behind A Nightmare on Elm Street. “Dream Weaver” and “Love is Alive” are sampled on 3rd Bass’s song “Wordz of Wisdom”. It was sampled in a 1990 Wayne’s World episode of Saturday Night Live, in which guest star Wayne Gretzky appears, and Wayne is picturing that song playing as he imagines himself defeating Gretzky in street hockey and then winning his wife, Janet Jones. The same song would also be used in the soundtrack of the 1992 film Wayne’s World. In 1992 Gary Wright re-recorded a longer version of “Dream Weaver” for the Wayne’s World movie soundtrack. In 1999, it was covered by dance artist Erin Hamilton for her album One World. It was also featured prominently in the boy/boy love story film Trick also released in 1999. This is a song that I wrote (the first half anyway) whilst sat on the rug in our lounge looking out the window at some birds on a crisp winter’s day. I was thinking in general about how people complain about the weather and how dull looking days make us all feel a bit down – I feel that way too – everything always seems so much better when the sun is shining. I was thinking how all the beauty of nature is still present even though the light isn’t really doing it any favours, and it’s not really very fair to have a negative opinion of something – when it can’t help it! lol. So that was where the idea came from. The rest of the song is based on a constant longing to find something and forgetting what really matters.
